In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My media product is a trailer. The genre is a sporting romance. Though my genre there is a direct conformation the conventions of real products as most film created today are of more than on genre. The effect of creating a sub-genre is increasing the audience capacity. Through our film, the idea of the sub genre means we can attract audiences with that enjoy both romantic movies and sport movies. Furthermore in order to ensure that there we were creating a product that the audience would respond to. This included creating titles that were typical of making a trailer. These include the title and the screen shot adopted at the start of the trailer.

This just states the target audience and the BFF certification for the movie but as it was present in every trailer we saw regardless of the genre, we decide that it was required. Furthermore, another way in which we conformed to the conventions of making a by adding a particular set of titles at the end of the trailer. This includes the producers’ names the directors and the names of the actor. It also includes the titles and the company logo daisy and I had created for our trailer. We created our own company logo using Photoshop. As most films are co produced by more than one company, we decide to add the Universal Pictures logo to our trailer making it a much more believable. The uniformed look of the titles throughout the trailer is similar to the titles in Bend it like Beckham they were all the same font and size and appeared for around the same length of time and aided in the telling of the story in the trailer. To an extent we incorporated this idea of the titles staying on screen for a similar amount of time. At the start of our trailer, we introduce our two main characters in a similar way to how it is done in Wimbledon using titles that state their names and a brief description of their characters.

There are element of our trailer that challenge the codes and conventions of making in a trailer. It is our unique selling point. In our trailer for me, it is the sport we have chosen. Although hockey is not the most popular sport, it is bound to spark an interest amongst fans of sport thus aspiring to create an audience using a unique selling point. Also our trailer has a number of titles in it and employs a voice over at a certain point to tell the story. If the film was completed, at this point Lottie would be speaking to her friend about meeting Michael, but in the trailer, this is used as a voice over with the shots of their meeting playing. This is a different mixture of titles that tell the story and the use of voice over that was present in Bend it like Beckham and Wimbledon, the main trailers we used for our research. We were able to access these trailers on YouTube. Generally the voice over used basically tells the story. Even when titles are employed, the voice over basically reads them out loud. Generally music throughout any media product tends to set the mood. In the trailers we studied, Bend it like Beckham and Wimbledon, there is one track throughout the whole trailer. Our trailer challenges this idea. We used two tracks in an attempt to emphasise a change in atmosphere from the fast pace of the hockey to the romantic element of the trailer and its repercussions. The story line is the most important selling point for our media product and it is where codes and conventions of creating media products are challenged. A story line focuses on making a choice. The idea is the main character Sarah is having to chose whether to have a boyfriend and be in love of continue pursuing her hockey career. This storyline is very quite different from that of Wimbledon as it is set in a school and is the characters are teenagers.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts
The link between my trailer and my magazine and front cover and my poster is very clear. My magazine front cover displays both elements of my genre and with images of both of my main characters on it. There are two images of Lottie our main hockey player with her stick dressed in full kit and there is also there is an image of the two lovers staring at each other depicting the romantic element of the genre. The image with her stick is an idea incorporated in most movies that focus on sports as it instantly tells the audience what sport is the focus. This is true in both the Wimbledon and Bend it like Beckham posters. There is a tennir raquett and a pair pf football boots depicting the sport that is being focused on. ALso in wimbeldon the main charcter is dressed in tennis whites and in our poster, lottie is wearing he hockey kit conforming to a code and convention of poster making and depicting the genre.

The font and style of writing used in our trailer for the title of the film is also employed in the poster. At the end of the trailer the set of titles used in stating the producers, the directors and the production company logo is also present at the bottom of the poster linking the two products. The image on the front cover is of one of our characters Henry. He is wearing an outfit that he is seen in during the film. This is a direct link to our trailer as a complete advertising campaign it is important to creating a convincing product. Furthermore, the title of the film is written in the same font and colours present on the poster thus making it a more convincing advertising campaign.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
I have learnt that feedback is very important. As my film is aimed at people my age, the direct feedback from my target audience was the most important factor in creating a successful product. Initially, our trailer was just full of hockey shots and lacked a story but as the producer, we understood the story we were telling but as viewers, our audience was able to help us recognise the fact that our trailer was not making sense. Furthermore, the feedback helped us realise that our titles were different sizes and the colours needed to work with the colours present in the title of our movie. Also, the feedback we received encouraged us to change the title of our film from chances to choices. According to some of our audience, the idea title did not make any sense and they preferred the title choices as it hinted at what the movie is all about.

For our poster according to feedback, our initial idea was good but it did not look believable and the images were of poor quality. The idea ‘looked better on paper than it did in reality’ quoting one our critics. So as a result we changed our idea of and adopted the rule of thirds as it was pleasing to our target audience and it conveyed the genre of the media product. Without direct feedback from our target audience, we may not have understood the errors within our product. We had several versions of our poster and we asked our target audience which was in fact members of our class to analyse and tell which was the most effective. This sort of feedback direct from our target audience aided us in the directly targeting our required audience.

To ensure we were using the rule of thirds correctly we decided to look at posters that utilise this technique including the one for goal and the Pride and Prejucice poster.

Our final version of our poster ended up very similar to these posters and the rule of thirds was employed. Our magazine front cover required a lot of feedback concerning the title and the font we used. Initially, there was a problem with our font, our audience did not like it as they thought it was too abstract and the title of our magazine initially CINEWORLD was already in existence so we decided to amend this problem straight away by instantly changing the name.

We decided on a name like Vision as it is directly linked to watching movies. We were convinced by our feedback that the magazine was genuinely believable as a front cover. The image on the front was looking directly at the camera, a common trait for magazine covers as it makes it seem as though the person is looking at them and intising them to purchase the magazine.

Overall it is safe to say that the feedback is the most effective way of truly evaluating your product especially when your target audience is amongst your peers. It means you get several opinions on how your target audience would respond to your product, the effects of vertain atributes and what does not work very well.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Generally the primary media technology I used in researching and planning my product was the internet when creating my media products at both AS and A2 level. In AS we were making the opening sequence for a number of our products, YouTube and DVDs were our main point of research. We were able to watch a number of opening sequences for films using these media technologies. In doing this we had access to the codes and conventions of making the opening sequence of a thriller. Likewise for our A2 media product, viewing lots of trailers within the same genre as mine played a huge part in the creation of my product. The ideas we had for trailer came from some of the trailer we watched on YouTube, most importantly Bend it like Beckham and Wimbledon adding our planning process. Throughout the whole course all of our planning was done on the blog. This enabled us document photographs and use screen shots and embed videos to show the planning and construction process of our media product. For example when making our production company logo, we had various attempts at doing this. The making of our first attempt of a company logo was documented on our blog using screen shots to display the creation process. Due to the feedback we received, we decided to change the design. Our research for a new idea was also added to blog in the form of examples of some company logos and our thoughts on them. The creation of the second company logo was also done on the blog using screenshots. The creation of our products was done on various Adobe software including, Photoshop, in design and Premier Elements. Our footage was taken on a digital camera using a tripod. The footage was edited using Adobe Premier Elements. For our poster we used in design instead of Photoshop as it is a better programmer for controlling text. But for a magazine we employed photoshop as it was a programe we were much more familiar with thus making it easier for us to create a high quality poster. The evaluation stage was also done on the computer we learned to embed videos and take screen shots skills that we had learned from our planning stages. Fundamentally, media technology plays a huge part in the creation of media products such as magazines, posters, films and trailers.

1.) In what ways does your media product use, Develop, or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Apects of media langauge such as cinematography,editing, sound and mise-en-scene are important in creating a trailer;a genre of its own. A trailer is 2 minute long promoting device that should leave the audience with the the famous generic concept of Roland Bathes;an enigma. The structure of trailer is normally non linear and is set to music. My Trailer "Choices" is a "Sporting Romance" genre the use of subgenre helps broaden my audience. With this genre I targeted a teenage audience, they would expect to see stereotypical lovers cuddling, kissing and meeting each other. I had to watch a few Trailers in the same genre as mine on YouTube such as; She’s the man, Wimbledon and Bend it like Beckham. Comparing my product to real products like Wimbledon, I managed to follow the conventions of this teaser trailer, I realised it had 100shots in 2 minuets that’s 1 shot for every second thus meaning that the pace of our trailer needed to be as upbeat and fast excided 2 minuets to be succesful. Therefore the structure of our trailer is similar to Wimbledon; the beginning has fast punchy shots of hockey which is similar to those tennis shots in Wimbledon and follows with the romantic story. In this trailer they used aspects such as titles and voice over to help tell the narrative. We develped these conventions and used a cross fade of voice over between the two contrasting pieces of music. The voice over helped create a realitic atmosphere throughout. The use of titles in a Trailer are a typically popular way to begin a trailer for example the titles in Bend it Like Beckham are similar to mine, with the sizes and timings of my titles thus helping to make ours look more realistic.

We also included the BFF certification and universal pictures logo which are placed in most trailers.

In a way I managed to develop my own film identity and created my own film logo company called black and white productions in which I made Photoshop.

All these aspects are typical characteristics of a trailer. We also made a set title page at the end of our Trailer; we had the producers, directors and actors names on it which also conformed to the conventional aspects of trailer.

The way in which we introduced our principle characters was similar to that of Wimbledon, we had music and slow titles over the characters in emphasise their importance parallel to that of Wimbledon.

One of the aspects in which my product tries to challenge the codes and conventions is the use of sound, the music helps set the tone and enhances the mood. We had to use two contrasting types of music because I noticed that in Bend it like Beckham they used the Indian music over the football scenes and British music over the Indian wedding scenes, and I liked how this brought pace to the piece. In the first half the dominant usage of upbeat fast music emphasised the fast paced hockey scenes which parelled the theme of my trailer similar to the football scenes in Bend it like Beckham. parrelle to the slow British music in the wedding scene, to my piece I added the slow mellow music to the romance scene thus setting the mood. However the difference between my product and Bend it like Beckham is the dramatic change to the music which is linked through voice over.

Both my characters are represented as teen stereotypes which is what a youth audience would expect to see such as the principle characters in Wimbledon. Sarah is represented as a sports star using mise-em-scene i dressed her in typical sporting clothes and used a sports coach, Michael was presented as the typical "school hunk" and we dressed him in cool casual clothes. Throught my fast editing I have shown this in a fast typical passionate kissing scene which is appealing to an adolescent audience such as the kissing scene in Wimbledon. The use of realism romance in both these trailers brought to life the genre of the Trailer.

Creating my own shots, logos and titles all develop conventions of Trailers, for example, I managed to promote our Trailer with our home made film logo, called black and white productions unlike a logo like ‘Columbia pictures’. We used two black and white masks placed back to back to represent the name of our trailer company. We made this originally in Photoshop and used half a black mask and half a white mask which we found on the internet.

These are my home made titles compared to those of Bend it Like Beckham.

What have you learnt from audience feedback?

My audience feedback is critical in order to develop initial ideas into successful ideas. The only way to improve is to react to constructive feedback. Initially our film had no realistic titles but ideas from the class helped us develope them as shown below.

The use of music was also a problem, some music did not primarily suit the genre, switching from upbeat to slow and then eventually we took a compromise and decided to use both types with the use of voice over in the middle acting as a cross fade.

During our very first stages of editing and developing our film we used to many shots of hockey and other students told us that the story wasn’t believable, we managed to produce some of our protagonist’s day to day life this helped vary the types of shot making it more realistic. I managed to get each member in my class and my teacher to watch my Trailer on a frequent bases to visualise the progress helped get constructive often negative feedback. For example my first magazine poster was unrealistic but with some feedback I changed the font and the picture on photoshop. We thought the use of "teen issue" was not as beliveable as "Vision" which can be related to Film magazines. We kept the main coverline to "Choices" but we edited the font to increase the size and awareness of the Film.

Through gradual progression of the making of my poster, aspects such as the sizes of our titles, colours, photo quality were prominent problems that occurred. Overall it was very helpful and helped make my product maximise its potential. According to our other products such as poster, we had a very first idea to use an image and cut it out to put on a white background, but after feedback we realised that it wasn’t as successful as it had looked before and our skills on photoshop were not very accurate there we changed the idea and used a picture with a decent background instead.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

The overall combination of various promoting tools such as poster magazine and Trailer are essential. The progress of linking these tools can be quite a challenging experience, in order to establish your brand it is necessary to use the same fonts, colours and style in each of your features to create a simular effect.

Here are a few examples of ours next to real products:

My trailer, poster and magazine all try to create a similar feeling and similarities between them. In each aspect the colours are fairly simular with tints of Red and Black. This colour regiem also follows through my titles in the Trailer. Through adjustments I have had to change my titles to fit in with my poster cover such as my trailer titles with my magazine. I have used the same colours and fonts in all these aspects. The use of reds and blacks on my poster allows it to relate to my Trailer. I have also used a picture of Sarah and Michael on the poster back to back with reflects the idea and theme of choices between hockey and Michael in the Trailer. The use of writing words in different colours and sizes on my poster also helps represent the idea of the consequences of “Choices”. I have found ideas from real products such as Bend it like Beckham’s Trailer and She’s the man’s film poster.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research planning and evaluation stages?

In order to tackle the challenge of making a trailer the very first step to take is the research. I looked at and analysed a variety of films genres, I looked at sites such as screen online, YouTube and British film. Looking at aspects such as the key concepts of Trailer making; audience, genre, and representation, I had managed to manipulate these conventions into my individual product. I also observed many styles of music which I listened to on websites such as Freeplay music and YouTube and I had to make sure they weren’t copyright. From my previous experience while planning my AS coursework film, I have learnt how to easily upload my planning ideas on to my blog. I now can analyse and change those ideas when needed- thus being very accessible. I had to be organised and plan in advance with timings of filming, the usage of props and appropriate costume at all times. Through the construction of my trailer used a video camera throughout. I consistently worked on my trailer in Premier Elements. I had learnt from the preliminary task of AS the techniques of editing the footage. I had to do many beginning cuts and gradually edited from there. I spent time uploaded, exporting, and importing footage during my progress. I also managed to use the timeline to change the speed of certain parts in my trailer as a way of emphasising the mood for example I made Lottie’s hit into the goal in slow motion as a way of making her look better at hockey. I also used the colour tool to make one part of the meeting of Lottie and Henry in black and white; this made it stand out from the rest. I also was uploading and embedding parts of my trailer on to my blog throughout. I used basic aspects such as the dissolve for my titles, time stretch tool and fades to manipulate my footage. With my poster and magazine I used technology such as photoshop and indesign, however I found indesign a more precise but yet harder programme to create the titles and cut out the picture I needed. In photoshop I could use merge layers, emphasise certain colours on my titles for example on my magazine I changed the colour of Henry to make him stand out more, I used an white outer glow around my title ‘Vision’ to help it stand out. Constant use of other film magazines such as Empire and Film helped me recreate and simulate my ideas for my product.

Looking at my product completed compared to real media products helped me analyse my progression. I edited my blog, embedded films and took a fair load of screenshots to emphasise the difference with other cultural products such as Wimbledon. Comparing my product to real products was an essential aspect of reflecting the originality of my product.

Here is the the final idea. We have used. With the help of ideas from simple posters like these, we managed to use ideas such as two pictures on one poster. We used the some ideas from some conventional posters such as She's the Man and Goal. We thought that simple techniques such as bold writing were more effective. After alot of research and planning we could decide which idea was better. The main difference between this photo and the other ones versions is that the 2/3 of the poster is in colour while the bottom third is in black and white creating a direct contrast. We employed colours like red and black as they were the two colours that worked with the purple blue of he kit. In the main photo, she is wearing her hockey shirt while she with Henry. Conveying the idea of the two genres. The seocnd photo is of the hoxkey stick. By spliting these photos up, we are depicting the choice she has to make throguh the poster thus portraying the storyline.

After some more audience feedback we realised we could chane our magazine again by making the font and title of "Choices" stand out.

Here is the final version of our Film Magazine.

As you see we have used the conventions of magazine making in order to enhance the poster. After constructive critisim we changed our poster around many times. With the help of Photoshop and Indesign, We managed to change many aspects of the Magazine.I edited the colour contrast in order to make Henry's face look darker. I changed the colours and effects on the writing of Vision, i added in an outerglow effect helping to emphasise the word and made it look bolder. I also used appropriate selling lines such as "30 must see movies", to catch an audiences attention. I had to centre line everything up in order to make it look stylised. My magazine cover is targetting adolescents. I also used a simple bar code helping it look more realistic as that is one every Magazine cover. I spoke to my teacher and she initially you could not read the top line of films due to the colour but after i changed it with a matching grey colour to fit in with the magazine.

These were the final steps of progress before our final piece. we were able to experiment alot with Indesign and Photoshop. But I found Photoshop easier to use as it was far less precise and tecnical.

There are only 3 main film magazines in the UK. They include ‘Sight and Sound’, ‘Empire’ and ‘Total Film’.
What is their target audience?
The target audience for these magazines are for film fans which include anyone from the age of 13 and above. In targeting such a wide range of audience, it means there are a great number of people to buy their product thus resulting in higher profit margin.
Weekly/Monthly? Who are the publishers and what is the price?
Sight and Sound is a monthly publication from the British Film Industry. It costs about £3.95 to purchase.
Empire- is published by Bauer Consumer Media publishing company and costs about £3.70 to purchase.

the image of the hockey stick is not our photo, whilst researching we came across this image and decided to use it until we were able to take a photo similar to it. Until that point, our poster will not be fully completed. But until then, I decided to work with the image i found.We created several versions of the poster until we eventually decided on the one we wanted to use

After we changed the programme in which we were using to create our poster, the graphics we have created on this programme are of a much better qualitly and we have incorporated the end titles into this version of our poster.

Half way through the process of creating our poster, we decided to change our idea due to feedback. We were told our design was not partivularly professional and that we should try something else. We decided to employ the rule of thirds into our poster making and attempt to create a more professional looking poster.

Incorporating the ideas that we got from the our reaearch from posters like Bend It like Beckham and She's the Man, we decided upon a design picutured bellow. We decided that our first idea looked a little too much like a magazine froont cover and changed it slightly. As we realised that most posters did not actually have the title at the top of the poster so we made this change to the rough drawring of our poster.

1) Posters like these are employed to advertise the film and hint at the potential story line of the film. It makes the genre obvious and is directed at a particular audience through the genre. Posters like this would be displayed on buses at bus stops, in cinemas and on billboards.
2) The posters aim themselves at a target audience through the picture. The hint at the storyline and the genre of the film thus attracting a particular audience. Furthermore, they are able to create an idea of the movie through the poster.
3) In the Poster for bend it like Beckham, there is one main image the back profile of her holding a pair of football boots behind her back conveying the idea of the football being a hidden passion and the idea of the movie. The image tells a little of the storyline. And portrays the clash between her culture and her love for football through the fact that she is dressed in tradition attire and has to hide her passion for football behind her back as though it is a secret. There is also an element of The target audience through this poster is football lovers and the Asian community as it is a movie about their culture and it incorporates football lovers into the audience as she is holding a pair of football boots in her hands thus enlightening the audience to the fact that football plays a part in the film. Mise en scene- the mise en scene includes her costume which is traditional Indian attire and the football boots are an essential part of the poster as it is the primary focus for the film. The poster also has positive critics opinions included in the image in an attempt to entice an audience into seeing it. There is the film company’s logo and names of the companies and people involved in the making of the movie.
4) The other poster I have chosen to analyse is Wimbledon. It consists of an individual image that incorporates the main characters of the film. She is also holding a tennis racket which and they are both dressed in tennis whites which tells the audience of the story line and the characters within the play. From the poster, the audience is supposed to be able to guess at the story line. From this poster, their romance is not necessarily obvious but it is a possibility. The fact that the female character is the one holding the tennis racket, suggest that she is the one that is most serious about her tennis although he is also wearing tennis whites. The name of the film is also present on the poster but it does not overpower the image as it is what is telling the story. The main actors’ names are also present on the poster. This utilises a method of attracting an audience that isn’t present in the Bend it like Beckham poster which is the use of the main stars in the film to attract an audience. Fans of Paul Bettany and Kirsten Dunst will be willing to see the film. Also fans of tennis and Wimbledon will be intrigued by a movie about their personal interest. On this poster there is no critic’s response to the movie and there is the film company’s logo and names of the companies involved in the making of the movie
5) This poster is of the film she’s the man. Unlike the other two posters, this one is very different. There are lots of captions at the top telling the story thus giving more of an insight into the story line which is that of a teen sporting romance, attracting the fans of the teenage romance genre. The image is of the characters in the film that play the biggest part in the role of the film. The set up goes in order of the importance. The main character is at the very front of the picture while the others are in a pyramid behind her. Some of the characters create the mise en scene with the props they have. One of the boys in the background is holding a football, highlighting that fact that football plays a major role in the film and the girl with the lipstick and mirror highlights the vanity with her character. The incorporation of football into this widens the audience as it grasps the attention of football lovers increasing the audience. There is a lot of writing in small print at the bottom of the poster. This is the name of all the directors of the film and people who played and important part in the creating the movie. Also the film companies that were involved in the creating of the film have their logos printed at the very bottom of the poster.
6) Rocky is a brilliant example of what we hope to achieve with our poster. The title is very large and obvious and the image incorporates both of the genres romance and sport. It achieves this through the mise en scene which includes the image that shows a man and woman holding hands and looking at each other conveying the romantic genre. The main sport in the movie is boxing. This is obvious in the poster as the man is dressed for boxing with his shorts, his hands wrapped in bandages and his boxing boots. This image attracts an audience that enjoys watching boxing and fans of romance movies. There is a quote form the movie at the top of the poster intriguing an audience making them curious and want to see the movie. There is also the same list of names and logos of the people and companies involved in the making of the movie.
7) The Cutting Edge 1992 poster incorporates two images. There are two images in the poster create different mise en scenes. The image at the top of the poster creates an image of the romance within the genre. They are looking lovingly into each others eyes thus conveying this genre through the photograph. The second image incorporates the title and the names of the people involved in the making of the movie with the logos of the companies at the very bottom. The image also includes the two main characters are skating. The main sport in this movie. They are doing a different kind of skating hinting at the potential storyline of the movie. The incorporation of more than one genre into the poster is a blatant way of attracting an audience of romance and sport lovers.

The poster I think will be most suitable for my work is the poster for she’s the man. We will incorporate a hockey stick into our trailer making the focal point of our trailer obvious like the poster for Wimbledon. The arrangement of the characters for the She’s the Man trailer incorporating other important characters into the poster is the sort of set up Daisy and I are hoping to employ.

Fools Gold

Image- the image in this poster automatically creates a feel that the movie will be a romance. The use of famous characters like Matthew and Kate grabs an audience in. The colour of the poster is very catching. The use of gold’s and blue makes it seem very attractive but yet simplistic. The way that the Kate is wearing a bikini also may attract a male audience. The title is quite attractive as well as the white colour stands out on the gold people. The Gold of the title also complements the gold of the actors. The main focus is on the actors as there are no other distractions. The actors are not looking into the camera but at each other makes us want to watch and find out the catch as it can’t be just as great as it appears.

Lord of War

The image creates instantly gets an audience questioning why he is covered in bullets which seems like a very clever effect making us seem quite superstitious. The simplicity of action in the cover draws us in. The only image is of the main character Nicolas Cage who is also very famous and brings us in. The main attraction is the fact that he is obviously covered in Bullets and complements the words of the title ‘war’. The tile is bold and in your face. There is use of minimum colour and only dark and realistic colours, reflects the seriousness of the film. The genre seems to be war. The white background makes the character stand out. His eyes are a piercing blue colour which sucks us into the world of the character and attracts us into his world.

Funny People -Comedy/Drama

The image is of 3 cheerful looking characters, including Adam Sandler, known for his big hit movies, and therefore will grab the attention of the audience as people know that they are guaranteed a good film in some way or another and he is usually related to comic films increases the interest of that type of audience. The target audience perhaps attracts teenagers and upwards, this is due to the actors being known for their teenage movies, like ‘super bad’, with perhaps some maturity to the story as Adam Sandler has been seen in some more mature films such as’ The Bucket List’ as we relate these actors to past movies.
The message on this poster is quite simple reflecting the simplicity of the poster detail. It seems as thought it wants to create an image of a light hearted and funny film ahead, but with some drama due to the put on smiles on their faces which we all know are hard to believe are true and we know that it will not be a good film without some drama. The detail is fairly minimal almost created a bigger impact focusing on the characters and their lives and the relationships between them.

Titanic- Drama

The image shows the subject and displays the emotion of the film. With two big time actors to grab interest. The people are cleverly just as big as the ship, and we can automatically presume the three things are related. Jack and Rose the two main characters seem to be lying on each other and look quite suspiciously sad we can tell that this will not be necessarily happy story.
There is a message of romance and tragedy by the expressions on their faces. They have displayed the title of the boat and used to as their name of film on the front of the boat towards the bottom in fine white writing that stands out. It is bold and straightforward also reflecting the seriousness of the matter. The target audience is probably towards more of a mature age group due to the lack of bright colours and more rich ones. The Mise-en-Scene shows how classy the boat is that Kate Winslet is wearing a nice dress and smart earrings reflecting her social class and status.

There is quite a strong image of domineering men here. There is a powerful perspective of villains, each showing their ‘power’. The gradual layering of people shows the importance and domineering postion of the actors in the film. We can see that it is a majority male based film. I think that this would attract an audience of Action hungry teenagers, and older and mainly male audience.

By the anger shown by wolverine we can see that there is some sort of hatred between him and perhaps the people standing behind him, the facial expression shows us allot about there position in the film to come.

At the moment Daisy and I are doing the finla touches of editing to our trailer. As we already have a considerable number of captions and titles already, we were wondering if it was compulsary to add captions declaring the name of our actors. After watching sevral trailers, we came to the conclusion that this may not be necessary as some trailers within the same genre like the one for Bend it Like Beckham, chose not to employ this. I think by not employing this method, it does not distract from the story.

Over the last few days I have been managed to get feedback from our teacher and other students how have said the following things:

So far I spend time remaking the Title logo as the following, which successfully fits in with our theme being Black and White productions. I managed to find a black masque and then copy it by making the other half white. We quite like this new title as it is an improvement from the otherone.

Aaron and some other members watched our trailer at the half way point. He gave us some very usefull feedback which included some of the advice that is part of our to do list bellow. He like the trailer so far but he feels we need more of a story and a wider range of shots that does not include hockey. We need to hint more at the romance with trailer. He adviced us to experiment more with the programme and use sound bridges and he stessed the importance of finding a sound track or sevral sound tracks that will help tell the story. This advice we are willing to take on board and utilise to improve the quality of our trailer.

We feel this gets across the message of lottie having to choose between hockey and Henry and helps us tell the story. We have just got back from holidays and still have to do some crucial filming.

yesterday Tolu and I managed to do some more filming, We filmed 4 of our frineds shooting into the goal in different angles and using different shots. We did a low angle shot of one girl sweeping the ball into the goal. There shots were a bit tricky as it was nearly getting dark and we had to film quickly and the camera ran out of battery towards the end. Now I am just editing.

I went back and watched a few more trailers paying a considerable amount of attention to our trailer and realised that at the end of every trailer there is a title that shows all the people involved in the making of the movie and the company logos. I decided to copy this image into a word document and printed it out. This enabled me to get a idea of what was actually written on the titles. This included the names of all of the main characters the Directors and the film title and aat the very bottom, there is the website for the film.

Using the printed version, i was able to create my own version of this. I incorporated universal pictures as the co-production company, found their logo and made it balck and white and placed it in a similar position to that of the real thing. I decided our film was to be called 'Chances' and incorporated this into the titles and created a website for our film. I then imported this image into the permiere emliments as part of my trailer ready to be placed at the end once it is completed.

I decided to create some more titles to aid the telling of our story in photoshop. We maintained the same font and tried to make it as realistic as possible. I did this on photoshop and then imported this image into our trailer on premiere elements.

All we have left to do is to find the music for our trailer and a little bit of filming to do. The filming shall not take us long but finding the correct kind of music is prooving very difficult too find as in most of the trailers we have seen for sporting romance such as 'Bend it like Beckham, there is one track playing throughout the trailer regarless of what was happening. In our opinion we beleive the music should reflect the situation in the trailer, for example of we were showing a sad event, the music should reflect the atmosphere we were trying to create. Furthermore, finding another track that would work for the entire trailer is prooving very difficult so i think we may try to find music to match the events occuring the trailer so we expect to have at least 2 tracks.

Today I managied to show my class my trailer and got some useful feedback. They though that the speed of the trailer and the changing of shots was appropiate for a Trailer and the sports romance genre. They commented on the fact that my titles may not all have the same size font, so I have to change that. They would like to see some other shots of the protagonist around the school campus, reflecting her day to day life. I will take some shots of her with her friends and in lessons. This is because the audience thought that they didnt know enough about the girl to understand the basic idea of the trailer. We are still to decide our music however.

For the beginning of out trailer i copied the opening from the trailer for Pride and Prejudice, it is an image that states the rating of our film which will be PG and it is present at the start of many of the trailers we have seen. This means we are conforming to the traditional codes and conventions of making a trailer thus making our product much more professional. In order to do this, i had to import the trailer into Premier elements as a new project, delete the sound and edit out the sections I required.

For our company logo, I was going to use that of 'Focus Features' present in the Pride and Prejudice trailer but instead, I decided to create our own in Photo shop. I decided to call our company, 'Ritchie and Lawie Productions'. In order to make our company logo, i got an image of a camera and edited it into the shape I wanted. Then I proceeded to play around with the font and colours until i got an image i like and thought was suitable and believable as a company logo. I then imported this images into the project i had already started with the rest of my titles and exported it. Then i imported it into the project containing my trailer and placed it in the suitable places within my trailer.

Today I managed to do some filming. I filmed Lottie storming into her room being desperately upset. I used a tilt high angle shot and a low angle shot and a couple of mid shots. These shots really helped show her state of mind and emotions. She is currently at the stage in the film where she has to make the hard decision between hockey and Henry which is our disequilibrium. I asked Lottie to breathe deeply and make weeping sounds reflecting her misery which I think will help make this part seem quite realistic and natural. I found Lottie’s corporation incredibly and she’s a really good friend to work with.

Yesterday, I filmed the a real hockey match in an attempt to get some genuine match on action. This was risky as it was a real life match and i may not have obtained the shots i required for my film but as it was prooving too difficult to find time to film an organised match as pur actors never seemed to be avaliable when we had time to film. I decided taking the risk was well worth it and it prooved to be. Some of the footage we obtained was quite good, there are a range of shots from different angles and i do beleive it was a sucess. We only have a few more scenes of filming to do then we are done obtaining footage and the editing can begin.

We took some footage a few days ago and I have spent today's lesson trying to edit some of it. This is prooving difficult as we have over 2 minutes o footage, but as we have not filmed in chronological order. This makes editing particularlly difficult as there is still so much we need to do and I am unsure of how these shots will fit into the rest of the trailer, we have also incorporated some shots that are not present on our storyboard as when we were filming wwe were constantly coming up with methods of taking more interseting shots and using the camera. Furthermore I have found a track that would be played througout the scenes where Lottie is playing hockey but we havent got the track we need for all more emotional section of our trailer.

We have had a short delay of filming due to one of our actors being injured, however we are planning to start filming on monday. To film on Monday Tolu and I will have to organise all the props the people and the timings. I have learnt from the past that people can waste your time by not turning up to film, therefore we will need to ask them in advance to be there. I will speak to our actors today to make sure that they will be there. On Monday we will film Lottie in hockey practise, will we use her other team members in the team to shot the team cheering. We will need to take a camera and a tripod out from our Monday lesson. Due to that in the time whilst we are waiting to film we will look at different types of voice over and various people to do it for us. We will need a realistic voice. We also will need to look at different types of copy write music for the background. These can be quite demanding jobs.

Today was spent deciding on the more significant shots and applying them to our Story board. After we decided or scenes and doing the story board was the final break down of our story into specific shots. We have decided on a wide range of shots that would tell the story in a non linear manner which would enable us to capture an audience's attention. We plan on paying a great deal of attention, in particular to the shots of her playing the sport in order to create a believable scene and an interesting combination of shots showing off her talent. Not only have we decide the style of shots, we have also decided the kind of sound we are going to have during the shot. Whether it is to be dialogue or aysycronous sounds. We have decided not to use a voice over but this decision may change depending on how our trailer works without it because telling the story may become a lot less complex with a voice over.

After watching the Trailer for ‘Bend it like Beckham’, I decide to watch it without the any sound. In doing this, I was made aware of the importance to sound to a trailer. It creates the entire atmosphere and without the voice over the number of shots put together to create a montage like effect becomes much more obvious and without the sound the story almost does not make sense this was the case with the She's the man trailer. For the vast majority of the trailer theres were differnt shots as the stroy jumped from shot to shot and althought the genre was abvious as it is a complicated story, the sound was required to fully understand what was going on. But in the case of ‘Bend it like Beckham’, without the sound, the themes present in the film and the general story line is very obvious. This is because there are lots of shots that make up the teaser trailer, it hints at several different potential endings and story lines but never really make a point of telling the story in a chronological order thus making it challenging to understand without any sound aiding the telling of the story. The employment of little captions as shown bellow also aid the audience in understanding the story without the music. This is a technique we may employ when creating our video.

But for ‘Bend it like Beckham’, the shots of the the girls playing football got the whole idea of what the movie is about across to the audience even when there was no sound. We are hoping to achieve this effect. We want our trailer to introduce the spot and the story line to the point where watching it without sound would not hinder the audiences’ understanding of what was going on.

After deciding on our scenes we observed went back to observing the trailer for ‘Bend it like Beckham’ to once again analyse how the trailers are put together and how the shots are adapted to form a teaser trailer. Throughout the trailer we counted more than 100 different shots keeping the audience interested and showing lots of different parts of the film without being giving away the story. The story was told primarily using a voice over which was very effective. We hope to incorporate these things we have learned in developing our scenes into shots in the creation process of our trailer.

These are our ideas so far:

For our trailer we will need to have a main boy character who will be Henry Kirkness and a girl character, we have decided to use Lottie Cameron as the girl as she will be able to act and play hockey for us. Our Trailer will attract a younger age group; this will hopefully follow the idea of being in a secondery boarding school and reflect our Teen romance genre.

Scene1- Location: Astroturf-Lottie

The First scene in our Trailer will be the most crucial time to grab the audience as it can either attract or push away our target audience. Therefore our first scene will be an upbeat and fast montage of many different angled and exciting shots. The first will be Lottie hitting the ball into the goal this will be repeated a few times from opposite angles. There will be a handheld tracking shot of her running down the pitch with the ball showing the audience her skills. Followed by a shot of the team cheering this will show there team spirit and dedication. Throughout this beginning there will be upbeat music which will be parallel towards the genre and idea. The use of many different angles will entice the audience. The scene will be in full colour and Lottie will be wearing the full sports kit. This will create realism. Some things we will need to consider will be the weather, however we will most likely film when is convenient for the actors to play the sport. Will need to organise timings for convience.

Scene2- Location- Mr Mortan’s office

Here we will expose Lottie’s dedication to the sport and love as she will now be shaking hands with the manager of the team, showing her acceptance into the squad, the music will be parallel slower than before but still drilling. The shots will be varied, we will use high and low angle shots to show there position for importance. Lottie willl always be on the upper hand.

Scene3 – Location-Refectory

In this scene Lottie will meet the guy, this is called the disequilibrium to the trailer. The perfect beginning has been spoiled. This creates an exciting narrative to her Hockey career. Lottie will be talking to her friends, and by mistake turns around bumping into him. There will be no music here just the tense atmosphere of the collision. we will be able to grasp that they have an automatic crush on each other. We will use a close up shot of both and a reverse shot for their slight conversation. They will be dressed in casual clothes at this point showing that they are out of school time now. The silence will create a huge highlight in the Trailer. We will also use a fast pan shot to resemble the business of the refectory.

Scene 4- School campus- Next to Gordonstoun House

Lottie will be walking around school campus next to Gordonstoun House with friends to lessons, as he will slow motion run past there will be a change in music. The music will be parrelle towardst the moment that only Lottie and Him will know it. They catch of eye contact and we can see that something will happen. High angle shot.

Scene 6- School campus

Here there will be a Montage of shots of them kissing in fast motion for lots of different areas in the school to upbeat music. Therefore this will increase the excitement to the Trailer reflecting the obvious moment in the film. We wont know what happens next. This will be a climax.

Scene 7- Astroturf

Here there will be Shots of her missing crucial Hockey practise or turning up late. Using a huge varity of shots to create realism. Major change in the music. Different clothes for each shot and montage. This will help show passing of time.

Scene 8 –Titles flash up

I think that the use of titles in a Trailer brings an audeince automacticlly closer, they really grasp an idea of what it is really about but it is never spoiled for them. ‘The choice to choose’ ‘Where will she go?’ ‘what will she do’. We havent decided what to say yet but we have a few ideas.

Genre- Teenage Sporting Romance

The trailer will begin at an equilibrium then move into disequilibrium and to conclude it would hint at various possible resolutions, conforming to the codes and conventions we have seen to be present in the trailers of a similar genre we have looked at. In doing this we will be leaving the audience in suspense and hopefully grasp their attention and arouse curiosity in the film. This will in fact result in a attracting an audience and alerting them to the coming of the film.

The storyline for our sporting romance trailer includes female hockey player who is the star of her team and she meets the guy of her dreams and her sport gets pushed aside and she begins to fail at a sport she used to excel at. Our trailer will end with us hinting at various resolutions which will include giving up hockey, breaking up with the boy and focuses on her sport or just breaking down and quitting everything. These hints will hopefully enlighten our target audience to the possible endings and once again. If we were actually making the movie the ending I would employ would be a happy one. This would include her staying with the boy as well as regaining her brilliance in her sport so it would be a light-hearted romance where all is resolved in the end.
Our Idea to create a trailer with more than one genre actually entices a wider audience, Just as James Cameron did for Titanic including true story, drama and romance.

Wimbledon is a traielr by Working Titiles. It manages it manages to incorporate 4 genres into the trailer. These include drama, sport, romance and comedy. In doing this, they are able to attract a wide range of audience including comedy and romance lovers. in order to create a sucessful trailer which would attract vast audiences, we need to take into considerstion incorporating more than one genre into the trailer. There is voice over for the vast majority of the trailer. This voice basically tells the synopsis of the story enabling the audience to understand and pick up on the genereal gyst of the story. It is important that the audience are made aware of what is going on without giving the entire story away. The romantic and sporting element of the genre are put together usings very fast editing. A montage is put together switching between them playing tennis and shots of them in a loving embrace. This is a technique we might use towards the end of our trailer as it makes the audience curious as to where and how the link between tennis and their love is established durinig the film. The trailer is just over 2 minutes long and for most trailers that means that it can be difficult to sustain my interest as an audience. This has been the case with trailers that only focus on one particular genre thus making it more important for our trailer to portray more than one genre and to do so in an interesting manner with a good range of shots.

The incorporation of captions to show tell the story and show the contrast between the two players without the the use of the voice over is another effective way of getting the story across to an audience. Also these shots introduce and focuses on the two famous actors that are in the movie thus making the trailer more appealing to thier fans.

Analysing 'she’s the man Film Trailer '

We have analysed ‘She’s the Man’ Film Trailer as it gives us some ideas how to match a story up with an obsession of sport for example football and tye in romance. The genre is romantic, comedy. It starts of with some non diagetic contrapuntal orchestral music which creates an automatic mood. The idea that an elegant women will appear, however our imagination changes as viola flings the doors open, the sound of the door is enhanced showing her masculinity.. We presume that she will be dressing up as her brother and it appears to be very believable this also grabs our attention as its quite funny, thus the narrative is clear here. The characters are represented in a stereotypical way, there is a hot guy and a pretty blonde girl this catches the conventions of reality and is always popular.
There is voice over throughout this Trailer this creates a narrative feeling. The editing is clearly fast montage, this helps with the narrative, and keeps the audience on thier toes! We can see her character through her clothes and her manner through out the clip we know what type of person she is imitating. The actor’s names appear on the screen by flashing up this can automatically persuade an audience to go and watch the film. Names such as Amanda Bynes can automatically interest us. This is a really good trailer as it leaves us wanted to watch the film.

To help us with producing the best quality trailer, Daisy and I have been watching film trailers within the same genre. This screenshot is from She's the man. This trailer is similar in genre with ours, we are hoping to make use of team shots like this at the begining of our trailer to create a idea of an equlibrium.

Another trailer we looked at was Bend it Like Beckham. At the begining of the trailer there were a series of really fast and snappy shots of the characters playing football and kicking a ball form a low and angle and over the sholer shots and close ups. This intoduces the sporting genre of the film in a very effective manner making it much more exciting and grasps the audience's attention .

Shots of match action is also an important element within the trailers that we looked at. Both trailers which include Bend it like Beckham and She's the Man both incorporate match action into their trailer. We think this makes the trailer much more exciting and continues the introduction to the featured sport. this screenshot is from She's the Man. It is a good example of the kind of shots we could incorporate.

At First we need to analyse a couple of relevant film trailers to give us some ideas for our own. Therefore we analysed 'Bend it Like Beckham'. This has a typical romantic sports genre. The 2 minutes of film catch our interest straightaway. It starts of with the diagetic sound of the football being hit enhanced so that we can see the automatic focus on the idea of football being A essential roll to the film . We can see that the dominance is focusing on women in football so its quite controversial for a film. The shots are fast and change to the beat, we can see that there is cross cutting and montage as it switches between two stories the idea of the Indian family and the English family, and we can guess that they are related through the fast cuts. The music throughout is fast however it changes as we can see that she is going to fall in love, it is parallel to the story. As the music changes as does the film, there are titles that flash in. for me however I feel as though the whole story is revealed to us as we see the Indian girl kissing the coach and escaping her regiments of society, in our film we will leave it for interpretation.

For me a trailer is Trailer consists of a series of selected shots from the film being advertised usually in cinemas or on TV. Since the purpose of the trailer is to attract an audience to the film, these excerpts are usually drawn from the most exciting, funny, or otherwise noteworthy parts of the film these are mostly not com,pleted narrtaive clues and dont spoil the climax. They should therefor leave you on suspense. A trailer has to achieve that in less than two and a half minutes, the maximum length allowed by theaters.
